
England captain Joe Root scored a double century on the second day of the Chennai Test against India. This is his hundredth test match. In this way, Root became the first cricketer in the world to score a double century in the 100th Test match. He had scored 128 runs on the first day of this match and on the second day, Root, taking forward his unbeaten innings, completed his double century in 341 balls after lunch. Root achieved this feat by hitting a six off Indian bowler R Ashwin in the third ball of the 143th over of the innings. Root broke the nearly 16-year-old record by achieving this feat, which was in the name of former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has tweeted about this achievement of Root. In the tweet, ICC wrote that the first batsman in Test cricket history to score a double century in his 100th match.

Pak player breaks record for best score in 100th test
In the 100th Test before Root, the highest individual Test score in an innings was 184 runs. Former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq had earlier scored 184 runs during the Test match against India in Bangalore. This was Inzamam’s 100th Test match and Inzamam-ul-Haq held the record for the biggest innings in the 100th Test match before Root scored a double century.

Root’s first double century against India
Root has so far scored five double centuries in his Test career, out of which he scored his third double century as captain today on 6 February. This was Root’s first double century against India. Apart from Root, England’s Alastair Cook, South Africa’s Graeme Smith and India’s Rahul Dravid have scored five double centuries. So far, Australia’s Don Bradman has scored the most double century in a Test match, 12 double centuries. Virat Kohli has scored the most number of times for India till now, 7 times double century. Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar have so far scored 6 double centuries in their Test career.
