The feature was announced on August 11 during Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked 2021 event. Earlier, the transfer of chats was possible only when the same mobile operating system was present in the phones. Chat history can be saved on WhatsApp’s cloud backup feature when moving from iOS to Android or vice versa. For iOS users, it can be saved on their cloud. Whereas, Android users can save it on Google Drive, but cannot bring it back to the app.
With the help of the new feature, chat history can be transferred over USB C cable using physical lightning. It does not require access to the web. But if you have already transferred between iOS and Android, the current backup will not be restored. The new feature will not bring them into one chat history. No existing backups will go into the backup, but two cloud backups will be created.
